Power Mornings: How to Start Your Day Like You Run the World
We all know those mornings—the ones where you wake up feeling like Beyoncé’s distant cousin, ready to handle business. And then…chaos.
Your kid can’t find their shoes, the doorbell rings, someone’s asking you for something, and before you know it, you’re spiraling.
Now you’re at work, side-eyeing your coworker for suggesting “teamwork,” when all you really want is peace and your focus back.
I’ve been there. And I’ve realized something powerful:
It’s not the shoes, the doorbell, or even the coworker.
It’s the fact that I lost control of my morning.
Mornings Set the Tone for Everything.
When my morning is smooth, I can handle almost anything with grace.
When it’s chaotic? Everything feels like an attack.
That’s why I created my “Power Morning Routine.”
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about claiming my peace before the world starts pulling at me.
Here’s how you can build yours:
1. Claim the First 30 Minutes for Yourself
Before you’re a mom, an employee, or a problem-solver—you’re YOU.
Give yourself the first 30 minutes before you take on anyone else’s drama.
• No kids.
• No emails.
• No scrolling.
That time is sacred.
Do something that grounds you:
• Stretch.
• Sip your coffee in silence.
• Journal.
• Pray.
• Listen to music that reminds you who you are.
2. Set the Tone for the House
If you have kids (especially teenagers), you already know—they wake up with selective amnesia about how life works.
Rooms are messy. Shoes disappear. Phones are forgotten.
Instead of letting their chaos become yours, set the standard early:
• Their room needs to be livable before they leave.
• If they forget something, it’s on them—not you.
• Emergency drop-offs? Not during your Power Morning.
This isn’t about being mean.
It’s about protecting your peace so you can be your best self for them later.
3. Protect Your Work Focus
If you work from home, like me, you know how easy it is for home life to bleed into work life.
One minute you’re reviewing claims, and the next you’re hunting for a charger that somehow vanished into the abyss.
Here’s what helps:
• Set a boundary with your family: Work time is work time. If they borrow something (like your charger), it better be back before your day starts.
• When interruptions happen (because they will), remind yourself: This is not my emergency.
• Pause. Breathe. Redirect. Protect your focus like your paycheck depends on it—because it does.
4. Pause When You Feel Triggered
Let’s be honest—some days, you’ll still get thrown off.
When that happens, it’s easy to snap or spiral.
But here’s the real power move:
Pause.
Ask yourself:
• Am I upset about this… or because my morning got hijacked?
• Would I care this much if I felt grounded right now?
Most times, it’s the morning.
When you know that, you can shift your energy back.
5. Own Your Mornings, Own Your Day
A Power Morning doesn’t mean life is perfect.
It means you start the day in control, not reacting to everyone else.
When you claim your mornings:
• You move through your day with confidence.
• You handle surprises without snapping.
• You protect your energy—because you know you deserve it.
You deserve peace. You deserve focus.
And it all starts when you take back your mornings.
